Tractor trailer overturns on I-8


chp badgeOn Tuesday, April 2, close to 6:00 a.m., Robert M. Tovar, Yuma, 56, was driving a 2002 Peterbilt (tractor with a trailer) on I-8 eastbound, east of Highway 115.

  Tovar was traveling in the right hand lane going approximately 55 MPH, when his vehicle drifted off the roadway and drove onto the right shoulder. 

Tovar over-corrected his steering and subsequently rolled over in the middle of the eastbound traffic lanes.  Tovar sustained a major head injury and was flown to UCSD Medical Center by Reach helicopter. 

The eastbound lanes were closed for 3 hours and traffic was diverted off SR-115.

  This collision is still under investigation.
