EL CENTRO – Caltrans crews will close eastbound Interstate 8 (I-8) at Dogwood Road in the city of El Centro in Imperial County on Thursday, from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. The closure will allow placement of falsework, a temporary bridge support system used during bridge construction, as part of the I-8 Dogwood Road Interchange Project.
Crews expect to switch to the westbound side Thursday, April 7 during the same hours.
During the closures, freeway traffic will be diverted to the Dogwood Road off-ramp and then back onto the I-8 on-ramp. Dogwood Road will remain open. No significant delays are expected.
The $28.1 million project will widen ramps and replace the Dogwood Road Overcrossing, widening it from two to six lanes, including two turning lanes. The improvements will help reduce congestion at freeway on- and off-ramps and provide easier access to local streets.
