IMPERIAL – Lights! Camera! Action! The California Mid-Winter Fair has an Oscar Winning line-up ready for Opening Day, Friday, and beyond as the fair prepares for ten days of fun, rides, shows, contests, and auctions.
This year’s theme, Now Playing, brings movie magic to the fairgrounds, with the help of Imperial Valley Film Commissioner, Charla Teeters. The IV Film Club will be acting out plays each weekend, a green screen will be present that can transport you to many exotic film sites found in the valley, and you can experience a drive-in theater, sponsored by Rogers and Rogers.
The amusement park promises to be better than ever, at least higher than ever, as one ride takes brave participants over 14 stories high- spinning.
Helms & Sons, owner of the amusement rides has added a bonus feature for families with small children. Cup Country will offer a handful of rides any small child can enjoy.
The fair board improved some of the buildings, with the biggest change coming to the old Junior Still Life Exhibit Hall which morphed into a vibrant blue building outside and renamed Inspiration Gallery. Inside, spectacular display areas better show the youth exhibits, thanks to the many artists of the community who became working committee members under the direction of Patty McGrew.
As usual, there is more to see and experience than can be fit into one day, so plan multiple visits. Discounted pre-fair tickets are still available, plus family bonus tickets will admit you to the Del Mar Fair this summer.
The fair has added a hashtag of #cmwf for those twitting and a facebook page to keep you up to date of everything they have to offer.
So grab your walking shoes, maybe an umbrella and your children and head out to the fair. They are ready for you.
