El CENTRO- Â The game finished with only a one point difference, the Spartans finding themselves on top with a final score of three to two, advancing Central’s overall record to 4-2.
At the top half of play, the Spartans hadÂ the first chance to score as midfielder Berlin Torres (24) maneuvered around the defending Scots for a goal, giving his team the edge Central fought to keep for the rest of the match.
Vincent Memorial answeredÂ by putting up a goal of their own, getting back into the action.
With the game tied at one, Central battledÂ for one last successful run before halftime. The Spartans took the lead by one when forward Evan Din (6) took control of the ball, kicking one in the net’s corner setting the score at two to one before the end of the first half.
Coming back on the field, Central eagerly took the field with efforts of increasing theirÂ lead. Centralsâ€™ Ricky Guzman (16) snatched the ball outside of the penalty box and blasted one right past the goalie, securing a two-point lead.
Both teams defenses battled keeping the game scoreless until Vincent Memorial mustered up one last goal wth a cross shot to Juan Pablo Ruiz, who found the back of the net.
Despite the hard efforts of the Scott’s, the Central Spartans ended on top with a final score of three to two. The Spartans will move on to face Helix High School for a tournament in Grossmont on December 17, with hopes to continue improving their record before league play.
The Vincent Memorial Scott’s will now travel to Brawley to face off against the Wildcats to try and grab their first win of the season.
