WINTERHAVEN The Yuma Sheriff’s Office received a request for assistance from an individual in Winterhaven on Tuesday, May 3.  The individual prepares taxes and a few days prior, had their computer worked on. Days later, a company called stating the computer had been hacked and requested access to the system. The individual complied, then later, the calling party wanted a $5,000 check for services. They did not pay, however, the reporting party discovered 27 social security numbers were missing from the computer. The case is still under investigation.
