Suspected hay arsonists caught and booked into county jail



The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a set of haystacks set on fire in the area of Clark Road, one block south of Barioni Road, Wednesday, September 23, at approximately 1:45 a.m.  Officers from the Imperial Police Department made contact with two subjects in the general area of the fire, and later determined the two subjects were possibly involved with setting fire to the haystacks. Due to the arson having occurred in the county area, the Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident.

After an investigation, it was determined that the two subjects were directly responsible for setting the arson haystack fire.  The subjects are identified as Seeley resident Angel Echavarria, 19, and Jose Lomeli, Imperial, 18.

Echavarria and Lomeli were both booked into the Imperial County Jail for the arson.  The case will be forwarded to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution
