BRAWLEY — It was a tight match that ultimately ended in a major upset as the Palo Verde Yellowjackets took on the Brawley Wildcats at home on Tuesday night.

It was a slow-scoring game up through the fourth inning, and both teams entered the seventh  tied 2-2. Although it was a down-tempo match, the slow pace added to the build up of the home run finale.

With the two teams seemingly evenly matched and the bottom of the seventh inning about to begin, it appeared the game would be going into extra innings. That is, until Brawley’s Garret Mamer (#7) stepped to the plate with Roberto Brodell (#8) on first base looking to steal second. Mamer was delivered a swift pitch and knocked it clear past the left field fences, bringing home Brodell for the winning play of the game.

The match ended in a score of 3-2 with Brawley adding a win to their 4-7 overall record.
