BRAWLEY – On August 10, 2014 at approximately 3:55 p.m., the Brawley Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of HWY-86 & Wildcat Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located three vehicles directly involved in the collision.

One of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames with the driver and sole occupant trapped inside. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

The other two drivers were transported to Pioneer’s Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.

The preliminary investigation indicated that a full size SUV type vehicle, driven by Scotty De La Torre was traveling in the #2 lane northbound on HWY-86.

As it approached the intersection of Wildcat Drive., the De La Torre failed to stop for the red signal light and collided into the rear of another full size SUV that was stopped for the light.

The impact caused the second vehicle to be launched into the intersection where it impacted a small compact vehicle making a left hand turned onto Wildcat Drive.

The second vehicle immediately burst into flames.

Scotty De La Torre was arrested at the hospital and booked into the Imperial County Jail for suspicion of felony driving under the influence and Vehicular Manslaughter charges.

The investigation is still on-going and the name of the other party is being withheld at this time, pending notification of family.
