CALEXICO – Seventy  countries around the world united on September 9, at exactly the same hour, 5:00 p.m. our time, to offer PILOXING fitness classes to raise awareness and funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation-Barncancerfonden.

Barncancerfonden is funding research aimed at preventing childhood cancer worldwide.

The Childhood Cancer Foundation was founded in 1982.  It is Sweden’s most trusted and established non-profit organization, dedicated to raising money to prevent and combat cancer in children. Scientists internationally collaborate on research projects funded by the foundation, which is at the forefront of childhood cancer research.

Studio Fit in Calexico joined the cause and met their donation goal of $250 with members who participated in the PILOXING class.

“Cancer has no cultural or physical borders, and neither do research findings and its cure. That is why I am helping to unite PILOXING instructors and participants across the world during this unique event, by offering my very own PILOXING of HOPE class,” said Alma Carrascosa, owner of Studio Fit.

“This is a great opportunity to educate our children about the importance of serving the community and hope they too follow our footsteps,” said Carrascosa. “I was very enthusiastic about the class today, the fact they everyone showed up and participated gave me more courage and enthusiasm to continue serving my community,” added Carrascosa.

Studio Fit was the only fitness gym in Imperial County that participated in the world wide event. The first class began in the New Zealand time zone and continued for 24 hours through the time zones across the globe and was streamed live on

One of the event’s slogans is, “Cancer never sleeps. Neither will we.”

“I exercised for a good cause today. You never know when you might be in the same situation that is why it is important to support this cause,” said member Rudy Garcia.

“I feel good about participating in this event. My father and sister passed away from cancer, so I can relate,” said another member, Linda Rivera.

Studio Fit located at 1074 E. Cole Road in the City of Calexico was established in January 2014. With approximately 200 members Studio Fit offers PILOXING, Combat, Zumba Fitness, Zumba Kids, Pump, Cross Training and TRX classes Monday through Saturday.
