EL CENTRO – Southwest High school hosted their annual Baccalaureate on Sunday afternoon on May 29 for a non-denominational ceremony for students to reflect on this rite of passage they are soon to embark on.

The ceremony was not only just for Southwest seniors, but for seniors from Central Union High School and Desert Oasis High School. With students excited to start the next journey of their lives, the Baccalaureate gives them the opportunity to take in a new perspective on life.

Campus Life’s Jeremiah Vik spoke to the seniors to bless them on the next step of their lives and the world they will be facing. His speech spoke on the matters on life and the challenges all will face. By tying in scripture to aid his speech, it gave students time to think and reflect on their past choices to help them make the right decisions for themselves by shutting out the negatives that are in the world.

Vik used Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

The sermon spoke of these topics and how students should continue to allow God to teach them and help them grow so they can begin to make choices in life that will aid them in their journey.

Students went on to give roses to their loved ones in the audience that had helped them through their lives to honor them and say thank you.

Finally, Vik lead the students and families in a closing word of prayer
