IMPERIAL — The Imperial Tigers hosted the Southwest Eagles March 28 in a baseball match up that ended with the Eagles defeating the Tigers late in the game with a final score of 2-1.

With the game starting off slow, the Tigers saw their first excitement in the bottom of the fourth inning, with one run to take a short lead over the Eagles.

The Tigers’ Kobby Lopez (#5) led off with a single to left field. Up next for the Tigers, Diego Favila (#13), connected with a line drive to second base on a hit and run play, advancing Lopez to third. On the same play, Lopez overran third base, getting himself into a pickle that resulted in a run for the Tigers, due to a missed tag by Eagles’ catcher Francisco Ulloa (#4).

With the Tigers up by one run, the Eagles approached the plate in the top of the fifth, eager to even the score. Leading off, Garred Estrada (#15), connected with the ball for a single to shallow left field earning a single. Following up, Diego Guzman (#31), hit a shot in the left-center gap, bringing in Estrada and tying up the game.

Keeping the rally going, second baseman Israel Zermeno (#6) hit a single to the outfield. Bringing in the winning run, Southwest’s Ulloa slugged a hard-liner to left center field, bringing in Zermeno for the winning run to close out the top of the fifth inning.

Through the sixth and seventh innings, the Tigers battled back with hits, but fell short of bringing any runners across the plate, sealing the 2-1 victory for the Eagles.
