Shooting Incident At The Calexico Downtown Port of Entry

CALEXICO – A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer on duty at one of the vehicle primary lanes at the Calexico West Port of Entry in California was approached by an individual on a bike, Wednesday, Oct. 21, at about 12 a.m. local time. The individual got off the bike with a knife in his hand and approached the officer. The officer discharged his service issued weapon, striking the individual. Officers immediately administered first aid until emergency medical services arrived. EMS transported the individual to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officer involved was not injured.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are scheduled to give a media briefing today at 1:00 P.M. to provide further information.
