EL CENTRO – In May of 2013, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office increased patrols in the area of Keystone and McConnell roads due to recent agricultural thefts in the area.

As a result, patrol deputies obtained critical evidence and information which led Sheriff’s Investigators to identify 33 year old Marco Andres Gutierrez-Perez from Mexicali, Mexico as the suspect in five thefts.

The victims were identified as local harvesting companies and the property loss has been estimated at $6,000 dollars. The stolen property was mainly tractor batteries and starters.

Investigators submitted the case to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office and obtained an arrest warrant.

Investigators later determined that Marco Gutierrez-Perez was currently working in the San Luis Arizona area.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2013 Imperial County Sheriff’s Investigators located Gutierrez-Perez at the San Luis Arizona Port of Entry with the assistance of Customs and Border Protection Officers.

Gutierrez-Perez is being held at the Yuma County Sheriff’s Jail on $25,000 dollar bail and is awaiting extradition to Imperial County.
