EL CENTRO – The Casa de Mañana Building at the Imperial Valley Expo was filled with exciting, young energy on Wednesday. The 11th Annual Senior Appreciation Day provided wholesome fun for seniors with food, entertainment, raffles, live music, and other activities.
“The main goal of the event was to bring seniors together and have an opportunity for them to socialize, have a good meal, and see the services provided from them around the valley,” explained Gil Rebollar, one of the coordinators of the event.
For the 11th time around, this event did not disappoint. Free to all seniors, it hosted various information booths from local service agencies such as Molina Healthcare and Imperial Heights. There was also plenty of fun, with activities such as bingo and a decorated photo booth. “Life on the Farm” was this year’s theme, and prizes were given at the door for “best dressed.”
“I enjoyed everything this year, especially the Muchachos (band),” said Irene Alvarez, a frequent guest who attended the event with her husband. “I have been coming here for five years now, and each and every year gets better. The meals were very good. This one is definitely the best I’ve been to.”
The live band, Muchachos, and their lead singer provided classic oldies for guests to dance to, ranging from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley.
“We have more vendors, more people, and just a bigger and better event than last year. We want to keep growing it as the years go on,” said Rebollar.
The appreciation event closed out with raffle winners receiving prizes such as blankets and hand towels, then transportation buses filled with seniors ready to continue on with the day.
