SACRAMENTO – State Senator Ben Hueso, Chair of the Senate Energy, Utilities, and Communications Committee will conduct an oversight hearing on Proposition 39, The California Clean Energy Jobs Act. The oversight hearing will take place today, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. at the State Capital In Room 112.
“It is my goal today to fully explore Proposition 39’s implementation and ensure that the funds are improving our schools through the installation of energy efficient and clean energy projects,” stated Senator Hueso. “California schools have a great opportunity to increase their standing as leaders in energy conservations through the use of this program and it is my hope that our schools are moving forward with their plans to provide our children a cleaner and more efficient environment.”
The goal of this oversight hearing is to better understand the roles and activities of the various administrative agencies and their interrelations. The committee will also assess the progress of the development of energy expenditure plans and installation of energy efficiency projects and clean energy generation. Senator Hueso intends the hearing recognize the successes of the Proposition 39 program, as well as any shortcomings, so that legislative remedies may be developed.
Proposition 39, the California Clean Energy Jobs Act, was approved by the voters in 2012. The initiative closes a corporate tax loophole, thereby returning billions in otherwise lost revenue to California. The Act ensures those revenues will improve California school and create tens of thousands of jobs through the installation of energy efficiency measures and clean energy generation.
To date, San Diego County has received $40,495,602 and Imperial County $4,309,092 in approvals for Energy Expenditure Plans.
The hearing will be open to the media and members of the public.
