EL CENTRO –┬áDiana Peacher, co-founder and board member of the Cancer Resource Center of the Desert (CRCD), has been honored by Sen. Ben Hueso’s office for her community service. The Cancer Resource Center is a non-profit community based organization established in 2006 in Imperial County.

Peacher established CRCD’s Patient Navigation program for the purpose of removing barriers to cancer care, including insurance status, language, culture, health literacy and transportation. To date, CRCD has served over 2,200 cancer patients.

Under her leadership, CRCD has engaged in multiple research projects partnering with San Diego State University, UC San Diego and UC San Francisco.

Recently, CRCD has expanded its services to include Survivorwear. This newly-formed social enterprise provides various special garments that ease the suffering of cancer patients. CRCD Survivorwear was awarded first prize at the UCLA Social Enterprise Academies in 2015.
