BRAWLEY – The BUHSD board recognized the 2013 Boy and Girl State nominees at their last meeting, Wednesday, April 17th.
Going to Boys State will be Brooks Hamby, Bryan Wood, Landon Currier, and Jordan Abatti. The alternates are Cole Pfister and Conner Trimm.
At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.
Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
Local Legion posts select high-school juniors to attend the program. In most cases, individual expenses are paid by a sponsoring post, a local business or another community-based organization.
The American Legion California Boys State 76th Session is June 22-29, 2013 at the California State University, Sacramento, CA.
Going to Girls State is junior Lindsay Jones and the alternate is Abigail Phillips.
Girls State is run by the American Legion Auxiliary which is the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with the American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals.
The dates for the 70th Session 2013 is June 17 -22 and will be held at McKenna College at Claremont, CA.
