Search still hot for Brawley’s Wednesday morning shooter

BRAWLEY – A Brawley man still remains in a San Diego hospital following being shot early Wednesday morning by an unknown suspect.

Brawley police continue to seek the public’s help and cooperation in their search for the suspect responsible for this crime.

According to a Brawley police spokesman, the victim is in stable condition. They believe he was shot behind the Brawley Union High School near B Street.

“Public safety only works when the community is involved. It can successfully work. Any information they can give us to help us follow up is important, however insignificant they think that lead is. It may lead into something that’s bigger and help us solve this case,” Commander Brett Houser said.

The police log records someone calling the police at three in the morning on Wednesday stating a person had been shot.

“We responded to the area and located a 23 year old male resident of Brawley who received a gunshot wound to his upper torso,” Houser said.

Police found the victim on the 500 block of D Street. They’re concentrating their investigation on 400 block of C street and the 300 block of B Street.

“At this time we’re investigating this as a possible attempted murder which is a very serious crime and it poses a serious threat to the community,” Houser said.

Police aren’t certain if this is gang related.

They’re strongly encouraging anyone living in the area to come forward if they heard the gunshots early wednesday morning.
