IVEDC’s VP of Business Services Sean Wilcock was awarded the Individual Citation Award at the national level by the International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP) on June 24.
Sean received the Individual Citation Award at the state level by IAWP at their Annual Conference on May 2. He was recognized for his work at IVEDC with regards to the successful implementation of the
Business Services Program, which has helped several local businesses to secure contracts on local projects increasing their sustainability, as well as their ability to expand their workforce. This same Business Services Program received the California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED) Grand Prize Award for Economic Development Programs in 2011.
After receiving this award, Sean greatly expanded the program resulting in over $100 million in contracts secured by local firms during the construction phase of several projects.
Additionally, he was recognized for IVEDC’s involvement with attracting, constructing, training and workforce recruitment for the Imperial Regional Detention Facility that will employ approximately 250 Imperial Valley residents.
The IAWP Citation Award is one of the highest honors IAWP presents to individuals or groups.
The first recipient of the Award was U.S. Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins in 1948. Under the pre-2000 award criteria, two U.S. Presidents (Harry S. Truman and John F. Kennedy), numerous U.S. Senators and Representatives, notable employers, educators and media personalities, as well as high-ranking government officials from both the US and abroad also received this honor.
