The Marvelous Wonderettes

Friday, February 14, 2014 | Saturday, February 15, 2014

EL CENTRO – This smash off-Broadway hit takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts.

As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic ’50s and ’60s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” “It’s My Party,” and over 20 other classic hits.

You’ve never had this much fun at a prom and you will never forget The Marvelous Wonderettes—a must-take musical trip down memory lane.

Roger Bean is the creator of the long-running off-Broadway smash hit The Marvelous Wonderettes, which has played in hundreds of theaters around the world.  Mr. Bean also created two popular sequels for these four delightful song leaders from Springfield High:  The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns and the holiday celebration Winter Wonderettes.

Original cast albums for all three Wonderettes shows are available online at Amazon and iTunes.  Additional audience-pleasing jukebox hits from Mr. Bean include Summer of Love, The Andrews Brothers, Why Do Fools Fall in Love?, Route 66 (over 100 productions throughout the country), and the long-running Los Angeles hit Life Could Be a Dream, the ’60s doo-wop musical that received the LA Drama Critics Circle Award, the LA Weekly Theatre Award, and the Backstage Garland Award for Outstanding Musical of 2010.

The Imperial Valley University Partnership (IVUP) between San Diego State University – Imperial Valley Campus, Imperial Valley College and the Imperial County Office of Education, continues to offer Imperial Valley students an academically rigorous four-year degree program locally with an expanding list of majors.

A key feature of the IVUP is to offer top students full and/or partial tuition scholarships as incentive to local high school graduates.  While donations over the years have established a strong endowment for scholarships – more is needed to meet the expanded student enrollment of the IVUP program.  Currently there are 189 students in the program.

On the Valentine’s weekend, February 14th and 15th, 2014 the IVUP is hosting the hilariously fun musical, The Marvelous Wonderettes, at the SHS Jimmie Cannon Theatre in El Centro.  Tickets are just $20 per person. The Marvelous Wonderettes event is a fundraising event with all of the proceeds going directly to fund student scholarships in the Imperial Valley University Partnership.

The show will start at 7pm with the doors opening for General Admission seating at 6pm.  Tickets may be purchased online, at the door, or at one of several ticket locations around Imperial Valley.
