EL CENTRO – Saturday, May 10, runners and walkers from the Imperial Valley came together at Imperial Valley College for the second annual 5k Fun Run in support of the Cancer Resource Center of the Desert.
The Fun Run was in honor of Patricia Medina, who dedicated her time giving to the Cancer Resource Center of the Desert and died from cancer in February of 2012.
Runners left the IVC campus to run west down Aten Road and through back roads to bring them to the finish line at the campus’ Depaoli Sports Complex.
In charge of Saturday’s run was Imperial Valley College political science teacher Raul Navarro. He said, “Political science is all about giving back and helping out. So we found the Cancer Resource Center and decided that’s where we wanted to give. That’s what got us all here today.”
“The Cancer Resource Center is there to help people in the Valley with cancer. From information to transportation, even support, we’re there to help,” said Diana Peacher, CEO and Patient Navigator at the Cancer Resource Center of the Desert, who worked closely with Medina.
The Cancer Resource Center of the Desert is located at 444 S. 8th Street, Suite B-3 in El Centro. Their telephone number is 760-353-6571. Visit them online at www.crcdinc.org.
