EL CENTRO – Imperial County Supervisor Michael Kelley used his credentials of an Imperial Tiger alum to introduce football standout  Royce Freeman at the board meeting on Tuesday. He paused for effect before taking on a sport’s announcer  persona and yelling into his mic, “Touchdown Royce Freeman!”

“ I heard that a thousand times!”  Kelley continued as spontaneous applause erupted.

“That was one heck of a game on Saturday at San Ontonio Texas.  If you haven’t seen it, you can come to my house and watch it, I’ve got it taped,” Kelley told Freeman.

The proclamation read by Kelley listed the running backs many achievements, including his 3.4 g.p.a., being named Offensive Player MVP, his CIF record setting rushes, and being the newest member of the Pac 12 Oregon Ducks.

“You are an outstanding individual, you are humble and the City of Imperial and the whole valley , we are so proud of you. Everybody in the valley knows your name, Royce Freeman,” Kelley told a deferential Freeman.

Tiger  head coach Kerry Legarra spoke next and added another accolade that Freeman just received on January 3rd – the Cal High Sports Player of the Year for Medium Schools.
