EL CENTRO — Rio Bend R.V. Resort hosted a two-person golf scramble May 28 for members of the community to come and enjoy a day of festivities and golf. The tournament was reasonably priced to encourage participation and included the 18-hole scramble, golf cart rental, range balls, and a small reception after the event. Rio Bend barbecued hot dogs for the contestants to celebrate after the long morning. The first place team of the event also received prize money.
In two-person scramble rules, the emphasis is in having fun. Every player hits a tee shot like in a normal golf match, however there is a twist to this type of format. Players from the scramble compete to see who can drive the ball the furthest down the green. And yet, to make the tournament interesting, all contestants hit from the farthest driven ball to finish up the hole. This adds fun and excitement for players keeping the game close all morning.
Rio Bend hosts many other community events such as billiards, bingo, and softball throughout the year. However, the scramble gave golf aficionados of Rio Bend and others the opportunity to come and enjoy their passion.
To end the day, players gathered around Rio Bend’s Café for a nice lunch and laughter as the players chatted about the tournament.
