BRAWLEY — REACH Air Medical Services now has a second life-saving air ambulance base in Imperial County. Located in Brawley, this base will double the air medical transport services available in the community.
Responding to Imperial County’s growing demand for critical care air transport services, REACH has positioned this base at the Brawley Municipal Airport. Centrally located, the flight crew will respond to 911 scene calls as well as hospital requests to transport patients to a higher level of care when needed.
“This is a great resource for the benefit of our community,†noted REACH Program Manager Brandon Walls. “Before moving this asset to Brawley, we had one air ambulance located in Imperial. When it was out on a call, the next closest helicopter came from our base in Alpine. Now, when one of our aircraft is out of the area transporting a patient to a hospital in San Diego, we have a second air ambulance resource available right here in the county.â€
REACH flight nurses and flight paramedics provide patients with an ICU level of care throughout their transport. REACH pilots have earned thousands of hours of flight time experience and their aircraft are maintained at or above FAA standards. The Brawley crew will fly patients on board a medically-equipped Bell 407 helicopter, which is especially well suited to the Imperial Sand Dunes environment.
REACH now has six bases serving the air ambulance needs of Southern California. Their base Thermal provides long-distance medical transports using a King Air airplane, while bases in Brawley, Imperial, Alpine, Oceanside, and Upland provide helicopter transports. The company has grown from one base in Northern California in 1987 to more than 45 bases in California, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas.
With more than 100,000 patients transported to needed care, REACH has shown on ongoing commitment to patient care and safety. The company has been continuously accredited since 1998 by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS), an independent, non-profit agency which audits and accredits air medical transport services in the United States.
REACH is a provider to the AirMedCare Network, the nation’s largest air ambulance membership network. AirMedCare Network offers memberships for $65 per year for an entire household. Membership covers all out of pocket costs for a transport by REACH, or any of the network’s more than 260 air ambulance locations across 32 states.
