SALTON SEA – A minor earthquake rattled the desert east of the Salton Sea, but was too weak to cause damage, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The magnitude-3.6 shaker was reported at 12:58 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the desert foothills about five miles west of Salton Sea Airport and seven miles southwest of Salton City.

The area is 35 miles south-southeast of Indio in Riverside County, where county fire dispatchers received no quake-related calls at their dispatch center, said spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.
