CALEXICO – Professional basketball team, Soles de Mexicali, General Manager Lic. Mario Flores Montaños announced, the team will soon begin training in Calexico, in addition to creating youth training camps it was announced Friday afternoon at the Holiday Inn Express in Calexico.

The Soles de Mexicali is based in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and play in the Northern Division of the League (LNBP).

“Presently we are in communication with the Chamber of Commerce and the Calexico Unified School District to obtain the necessary requirements for our plan,” said Montaños.

Soles de Mexicali also announced they have partnered up with the Holiday Inn Express where some team members and their families will be staying during the games.

“This new alliance between Soles de Mexicali and Holiday Inn Express fortresses the sister cities and favors both sides of the border,” said Maritza Hurtado, Calexico City Council Member.

The team currently runs a youth clinic for 500 low income children, 4  through 16, in Mexicali.

The team was founded in 2005, and became established as one of Mexico’s youngest and most successful basketball franchises. They currently play their home games in the Auditorio del Estado and are getting their home auditorium remodeled to match their recent title.

“We are very happy to see our cities continue to work together and our alliance growing stronger,” said Hector E. Huerta Nava, deputy consul of Mexico in Calexico.

Soles de Mexicali won the LNBP (National Professional Basketball league) the top professional basketball league in Mexico in 2015 and 2006.

“On behalf of the City of Calexico we would like to encourage families to go to the games and spend quality time while having a great time,” said Hurtado.
