Power outage in Indio initially affected 6,807 customers

indio-california12INDIO — An equipment malfunction was blamed for a power outage that left 1,774 Imperial Irrigation District customers without electricity Saturday night in Indio.

 

The outage happened at 6:57 p.m. and initially affected 6,807 customers.

 

After about 10 minutes, all but 1,774 had power restored.

 

Crews “got a big chunk of the customers back up,” IID spokeswoman Marion Champion said.

 

All power was restored at 8:06 p.m.

 

The malfunction occurred at an IID substation at Jackson Street and Avenue 50 and all impacted customers were within the area.

 

 

The cause of the malfunction is under investigation.
