INDIO — An equipment malfunction was blamed for a power outage that left 1,774 Imperial Irrigation District customers without electricity Saturday night in Indio.
The outage happened at 6:57 p.m. and initially affected 6,807 customers.
After about 10 minutes, all but 1,774 had power restored.
Crews “got a big chunk of the customers back up,” IID spokeswoman Marion Champion said.
All power was restored at 8:06 p.m.
The malfunction occurred at an IID substation at Jackson Street and Avenue 50 and all impacted customers were within the area.
The cause of the malfunction is under investigation.
