EL CENTRO – A transmission line equipment failure caused parts of the cities of El Centro and Calexico to lose power for about 2 hours Sunday afternoon.

The Calexico Police and Fire Departments and the downtown area were affected. In El Centro, the Imperial valley Mall and surrounding are was affected.

The outage was at 4:03 p.m. and power was restored at 6:13 p.m.

Power was routed from another direction while the IID crews worked on the equipment failure on the transmission line.

5,412 IID customers were affected by the outage.

The outage included the Imperial Valley Mall and the Cinema 14 Theaters causing movie goers to either vacate the show or wait out the power failure.

Jim Shinn of El Centro said the power went out in the middle of viewing “God’s Not Dead.”  He said local pastor Walter Colace of Christ Community Church was in the theater, too. “Walter stood up and started to ask for people’s testimonies. It was great.”
