BRAWLEY – The IID Power department confirmed that power has been lost in the La Quinta district affecting the five cities in the area. Crews have been sent to repair overworked transformers but there was no estimated time of repair.
UPDATE –Imperial Irrigation District crews restored power Friday night to 113 customers at a La Quinta country club.
These customers were among an overall group of more than 400 hit by four separate outages that occurred in different parts of the La Quinta Distict Friday.
At 5:24 p.m., electricity went out at the Citrus Club off Avenue 50 and Jefferson Street, IID spokeswoman Marion Champion said.
As of 9 p.m., electricity was restored and the outage was blamed on equipment failure.
It’s the fourth outage IID officials dealt with Friday in the east Coachella Valley.
At 3:38 p.m., a bird flew into power lines and knocked out electricity to 241 customers in Thermal.
Full restoration was attained at 5:08 p.m., but Champion didn’t have the boundaries of the outage.
In Indio, 12 customers on Palm Meadows Drive lost power after a tree got caught in a utility line.
They had their electricity restored in about an hour.
“In heat like this, even 12 customers out is a big deal,” Champion said.
Another 70 customers in Sun City Del Webb, north of Interstate 10 near Bermuda Dunes, lost electricity at 2:38 p.m. because of equipment malfunction.
Their power was restored fully at 7:30 p.m.
“We don’t know how long this will take to fix, it might be an all-nighter,” the emergency operator said.
Besides the La Quinta area, two streets in Brawley are without power, Terrace Drive and Terrace Circle. The power was restored to Brawley residents around 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
