BRAWLEY – The Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District is proud to welcome to the community their new Chief Human Resources Officer, Julie Cunningham.
For Cunningham, it’s more of a homecoming rather than just accepting a position at PMHD. “My husband is from Brawley and we have a strong group of family and friends here that we’ve missed,” said Cunningham, who was formerly employed at a nearby hospital and most recently lived in a suburb of London, England with her family.
“We wanted to reconnect with our friends and family,” said Cunningham adding that the deep friendships in Brawley was one of the best tools for recruitment in the area.
For the position at Pioneers, Cunningham brings 20 years of experience in Human Resources, ranging from general to specific aspects of the position. In addition to working at the nearby hospital, Cunningham also brings experience in a variety of sectors including several years in the services industry.
Cunningham also recognizes the unique challenges to the position. “Having previously worked in the Valley, I have an understanding of the dynamics of the area,” said Cunningham. “The challenges that we have in terms of recruiting, being that we’re in a remote, rural environment are quite different than being in a larger city.”
Julie’s new boss, PMHD CEO Larry Lewis, added that “Julie brings with her broad range of experience in human resources leadership and organizational leadership, including local healthcare, national retail organizations, and most recently… an international service organization. We look forward to the addition of Julie’s experience in both human resources and organizational leadership. Julie’s broad range of experience and perspectives will complete the leadership team and compliment the broad experience of leaders here at Pioneers.”
