COACHELLA VALLEY – Local Palm Desert group Penny Unniversity has been awarded the 2013 Marker Broadcasting Award for best jazz group in the Coachella Valley.

Coachella Valley is fast becoming “The Music Festival Capitol of America” and the boys of Penny Unniversity are in the mix, representing the jazz genre. Many believe jazz will be the next big festival-type music event to hit the valley.

Penny Unniversity headlined the First Annual Rhythm Wine and Brews Fest at the Empire Polo Grounds in 2012, and opened for BB King at the Second Annual Brews Fest.

What’s next for Penny Unniversity? They say radio support has increased dramatically in European stations, and local Coachella station, KJJZ 102.3FM on the Big Breakfast with Jim Fitzgerald, highlights their hit “Escape To Capri” on a regular rotation.

With a second album in the works for a fall release, a road tour is in the making. The group invites music enthusiasts to listen to their music or drive up to see them play live. For more information and tour dates visit
