Oktoberfest fills Downtown Imperial

Bar-b-que smoke fills the background with aroma of the Imperial Oktoberfest Market Days

IMPERIAL – Spectators filled downtown Imperial, Saturday, as they intermingled, feasted, bought, and enjoyed the fall day at the Oktoberfest Market Days.

Merchants lined the sidewalk with tabletops and gazebos exhibiting their goods and wares.

A long line formed to purchase the famous Julian Apple Pie. Also popular were the fresh fruits and vegetables, making the event a true Farmers’ Market.

The city held different competitions like “barrel racing” and “beer stein holding” with prizes given to the best of the competitors.

El Centro residents, Thomas Gunn and Jill Ochoa, the “Beir Runners”, earned 1st place in the barrel racing, winning a home brew beer kit. Coming in 2nd place was Drew Williams and Brian Robertson as “The Word,” and in 3rd place was “Team Armstrong” Tommy Armstrong and Jennifer Armstrong residents of Brawley. The 2nd and 3rd place winners received beer nuts as an award.

The next Market Days event will take place in downtown Imperial on the Harvest Palooza on November 22, 2014 from 4 p.m to 8 p.m.
