EL CENTRO – The Imperial County Board of Supervisors proclaimed October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” on Tuesday during the regular board meeting.

The proclamation was presented to Gina R. Vargas, WomanHaven Executive Director in recognition of the important work done by the family advocates and programs offered.

The Board of Supervisors urged all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities and programs to work toward improving victim safety and holding perpetrators of family abuse accountable for their actions against individual victims and our Valley community as a whole.

The crime of family violence violates an individual’s privacy and dignity, security and humanity, due to systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic control and/or abuse including abuse to children and the elderly.

  1. If you are against domestic violence, join many folks for a peaceful march from the courthouse at 940 Main St., in El Centro on October 21, beginning at 5:15 pm. There are a few speakers and then the group will march to the park at 7th and Main where there are several resource tables and activities. Come join the fun and march against violence in all relationships!!
