Norma June Hurst, 75, of Gause TX passed away on February 27, 2016.

Norma was born in Austin TX, on August 16, 1940 to the late Austin Spear and the late Helen June Evans and was granddaughter to the late Mary Gladys Tidwell.

Norma retired from Civil Service at Wurtsmith AFB, MI in 1988 and moved back to her family home in Gause.  She was a substitute teacher at the Hearne schools until 2009.  Because of her love for animals she also volunteered some of her time at the Humane Society.

Norma is preceded in death by her husband Dennis E. Hurst, brother Thomas Spear and wife of West Morland, CA, sister Gayle Frizell and husband of Pflugerville, TX, daughter Kelly Langford of Hutto, TX, son Robert Gingrich Jr. and wife of Ft Mojave, AZ, daughter Cheryl Wells and husband of Deville, LA, and daughter Rhonda Avery and husband of Oscoda, MI.

Norma is survived by 8 grandchildren; Joseph Langford, David Gingrich, Steven Gingrich, Scott Gingrich, Chad LaRiviere, Christian LaRiviere, Jessica Blackmon and Matthew Avery, 12 great-grandchildren and by her loving companion L C Walker and his family.

A luncheon gathering was held for family and friends at the Baptist Church in Gause, followed by a small service with Pastor Jason Lasher officiating at the Gause Cemetery where she was laid to rest.  She will be dearly missed by all.


  1. Norma previously lived in the Westmorland area where she attended Westmorland Grammer School and Brawley Union High School, at that time she was know as Norma Evans. Her mother, June Evans, and step-father Homer Evans were long time valley residents. Her brother, Tom Spear, still lives in Westmorland, and sister, Virginia Gayle Evans Frizell resides in Pflugerville,Tx. Norma would be remembered for her beautiful singing voice. When Norma would sing, her voice could be heard above all others.
