News from Hannah House

October Newsletter

Isaiah 61: 1“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

With our hearts and minds focused on this Scripture, our team of nine young adults from Antioch Community Church in Norman set off for northern Thailand during the first two weeks of August. Our prayer was Psalm 1:3 – that we would be like the tree, planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. We fully expected to see the Lord move in mighty ways… and of course, He did!

While in Chiang Mai and the surrounding area, we spent time working with several different populations, including Agape Home for AIDS orphans, sex workers in the Red Light area of Chiang Mai, and refugees on the Burmese border. We had the privilege to partner with a local group of believers while there as well. It was incredible to work alongside the local church to share the gospel with people all over the city!

In each aspect of our trip, having the support and encouragement from Hannah House was huge for us. Our trip would not have been the same without Sangla! Not only was she incredibly patient with us and willing to provide much of our transportation, but she became part of our team. She encouraged people, she led teams out into the city to share the gospel, she translated countless menu items to us, she prayed with us, and more. She is a vital member of the Body of Christ in Thailand, and we loved getting to spend time with her.

In addition to Sangla being with our team for an extensive period of time, Hannah House also allowed us to be part of their lives. They opened their home for dinner for our team, for local missionaries and for a missionary visiting from abroad. Not only was the food delicious, but the fellowship was wonderful, as we spent two evenings chatting with the ladies of Hannah House, followed by worship and time spent in the Word. They were a source of refreshment and encouragement for us, and the way they welcomed us into their home was such a blessing.

As we returned home, we rejoiced that the Lord allowed us to see people receiving salvation, being healed, and being transformed all across the city and northern Thailand. We returned with a newly stirred faith for His grace and mercy, and for His power being shown through believers in Thailand. We hope to return again soon!
