New Ambulance Service for Bombay Beach and Salton Sea

EL CENTRO — The Salton Sea communities will now have a dedicated an ambulance service according to the Imperial County Public Health Department. The Morongo Basin Ambulance Association will cover the northwest corner of the county. They are headquartered in Joshua Tree area and operate under the name of Salton Sea EMS..

The agreement requires the Salton Sea EMS to provide a minimum of one ambulance staffed at the paramedic level on a continuous basis.

The Imperial County maintains five ambulance zones. Zone III, which includes the Salton Sea area, encompasses the area north of the Highway 86 Border Patrol Checkpoint and West of the Salton Sea. In the past, North Shore Ambulance provided the emergency ambulance services in Zone III. Since the closure of West Shore Ambulance in September of 2012, Gold Cross has provided emergency ambulance services, with out significant interruption in service.

The terms of the agreement will end at the end of the year. The short term time allows for a trial period with the ambulance service and gives the county time to evaluate their response times and quality of service.
