EL CENTRO – On Monday, October 7, 2013, officers from the El Centro Police Department made a traffic-stop with a semi truck pulling a trailer, on Highway 111 near Ralph Road.
The truck was traveling over 60 MPH, exceeding the posted speed limit.
The truck driver was 39 years old. Julio C. Galindo of Imperial had allowed the officers to search his vehicle for narcotics.
The officers found a box that contained roughly twenty pounds of methamphetamine and heroin, with a combined street value of $540,000.00.
Galindo was arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics, transportation of narcotics for sale and possession of narcotics for sale.
He was booked into the Imperial County Jail and his bail was set at $1,000,000.00.
“Our officers used their knowledge of traffic laws and their investigative skills to seize narcotics, while working a special enforcement detail funded by Customs and Border Protection”, said Commander Jeff Mason.
“Without overtime funding we likely would not have made this stop and discovered the drugs”, said Mason.
