Maria Apolinar “Poli” Cortez Perez
July 17, 1933 – October 6, 2014
MariaPerez was born on July 17, 1933 in Michoacan, Mexico and resided in Calipatria when she passed away on October6, 2014 in Pioneers Memorial Hospital due to complications with Alzheimers.
Poli was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was loved by many for her caring heart, always willing to help and guide those around her. One of her many talents included her “home cooked” meals that brought together families from far away. Poli loved caring for her household, not out of duty, but with complete love.
Moms home was always inviting to family and friends, leaving behind many cherished memories. Poli was married to Salvador R. Perez for over 57 years. They shared five children and nine grandchildren. She enjoyed visits from family and friends as well as family outing to the Cortez Family Ranch. She also enjoyed getaways with the family to San Diego, Ensenada, Blythe, Stockton, to name a few.
Poli regularly attended Saint Patrick Church in Calipatria, CA. Her deep rooted faith beliefs were instilled by her mother Eloise and shared with her children. Poli was diagnosed with Alzheimers in her late 50’s. As the illness progressed and she continued her battle, she eventually required total nursing care assistance. The family was blessed to have the help of the nursing staff at Imperial Heights who cared and loved her for 11 years. Poli was loved by many for her heart of gold and genuine smile. She will be dearly missed.
The Mass Service for Poli will be on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Calipatria at 9:00 a.m. and will be officiated by Father Alfred Heyrosa.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Calipatria from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The burial will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2014 at Riverview Cemetery after the Mass service.
The Rosary will be on October 13, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Calipatria at 7:00 p.m.
Poli is preceded in death by her husband, Salvador R. Perez, her daughter-in-law, Ivonne C. Perez, her mother, Eloisa Sepulveda De Cortez, and her father, Victoriano Cortez.
The survivors of Poli include her sons, Salvador Perez of El Centro, and Frank Perez of Calipatria, her daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Ray Luna of Calipatria, Angie and Phillip Reyes of Brawley, Armida and Joe Palacio of Brawley, her brothers, Luis, Jesus, and Gustavo and her sisters, Ezperanza, and Consuelo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Yvonne, Michelle, Adrienne, Marissa, Phillip Jr., Andrea, Joe Jr., Gabby and Salvador. And by her great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Richie.
