CALEXICO – On August 11, Calexico police officers responded to a call of a woman alleging she had been attacked by her former boyfriend. The incident occurred on Encinas Avenue and Third Street. It is alleged the 64-year-old male suspect struck the victim on her hand with a hammer.
An officer attempted to book the suspect into the Imperial County Jail for assault, however, due to health concerns, the Imperial County Jail was unable to accept him as a prisoner and he was released to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Even though officers were unable to book the suspect at the jail, a report was submitted to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office for filing of criminal charges.
