EL CENTRO – On January 30, 9:00 a.m., Thursday morning, Roxana Real, 39 of Imperial, was driving her 2004 Nissan south on Highway 111. Real came up to Julie Anne Bruns, 21 of Mexicali, Mexico, who was stopped at the intersection of Jasper Road and Highway 111 with her stalled 2001 Volkswagen.
Bruns had her hazard lights flashing due to being stalled and in lane 1.
Mario Alberto Ibarra, 28 of Imperial, was behind Real and traveling between 65-70 mph.
Real saw several vehicles go around the stalled Volkswagen ahead of her. As Real neared the stalled car, there was traffic to her right so she was unable to change lanes to pass so she came to a stop directly behind the stalled Volkswagen, waiting for the traffic to clear.
As she looked in her rear view mirror she saw a black car coming towards her which swerved and moved to the left and then she saw a red Corvette, driven by Ibarra rapidly closing in on her.
According to Bruns, the next thing she knew she was hit by Ibarra, and she and her car were slammed forward.
When Ibarra struck Real, Real was hurtled forward and struck Bruns.
Real suffered moderate injuries and was transported to El Centro Regional.
Ibarrez had major injuries and was transported to El Centro Regional.
Janine Ibarra, 4 years old and of Imperial, was a passenger of Ibarra’s and suffered minor injuries and taken to El Centro Regional.
According to CHP officer D.R. Davis, the collision is still under investigation.
