EL CENTRO – The Imperial and Calexico Rotary Clubs have been awarded with 2013-2014Â Presidential Citations, marking them as among the top clubs in the SanÂ Diego/Imperial County Rotary region.
The citation, awarded by the Rotary Governor, recognizes clubs for anÂ array of achievements that promote membership growth, enhanceÂ humanitarian service through the Rotary Foundation and strengthen theÂ Rotary network.
The two clubs were recognized at the Rotary District 5340 annualÂ Governor’s Dinner and Awards Presentation June 24 at the Crowne Plaza inÂ Mission Valley.
To receive the citation, clubs must reach membership goals as well asÂ participate in a local or international service project that is relatedÂ to Rotary’s area of focus.
The club must also hold at least one activityÂ that involves all club members and their families as well as partnerÂ with a non-Rotary organization on a service project in the community.
“Our club worked very hard this year on an international project asÂ well as community projects, and to recruit new members,” said MiguelÂ Colon, president of the Imperial Valley Breakfast Club.” He added “ThisÂ citation is well earned by all the members of the Imperial ValleyÂ Breakfast Rotary Club.”
Calexico Rotary President Nelson Baxley praised his club members’Â dedication to the City of Calexico and the Imperial Valley for fosteringÂ a relationship with the Mexicali valley. “We strive to be greatÂ neighbors as well as great mentors to our partners across the shortÂ border we share,” he said. Baxley also praised his club’s activeÂ involvement in education, including “wholehearted support of theÂ Rotaract movement in local community colleges.”
