EL CENTRO – The Imperial and Calexico Rotary Clubs have been awarded with 2013-2014 Presidential Citations, marking them as among the top clubs in the San Diego/Imperial County Rotary region.

The citation, awarded by the Rotary Governor, recognizes clubs for an array of achievements that promote membership growth, enhance humanitarian service through the Rotary Foundation and strengthen the Rotary network.

The two clubs were recognized at the Rotary District 5340 annual Governor’s Dinner and Awards Presentation June 24 at the Crowne Plaza in Mission Valley.

To receive the citation, clubs must reach membership goals as well as participate in a local or international service project that is related to Rotary’s area of focus.

The club must also hold at least one activity that involves all club members and their families as well as partner with a non-Rotary organization on a service project in the community.

“Our club worked very hard this year on an international project as well as community projects, and to recruit new members,” said Miguel Colon, president of the Imperial Valley Breakfast Club.” He added “This citation is well earned by all the members of the Imperial Valley Breakfast Rotary Club.”

Calexico Rotary President Nelson Baxley praised his club members’ dedication to the City of Calexico and the Imperial Valley for fostering a relationship with the Mexicali valley. “We strive to be great neighbors as well as great mentors to our partners across the short border we share,” he said. Baxley also praised his club’s active involvement in education, including “wholehearted support of the Rotaract movement in local community colleges.”
