Local Legislators Honor Volunteers and Community Health Workers

Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia addresses healthcare workers

BRAWLEY – Nearly 40 volunteers and community health educators gathered at Las Chabela’s Restaurant Friday, October 23, for an Appreciation Breakfast being hosted by Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia.

The annual event, held as part of California Promotoras Month, pays tribute to the contributions of community health workers (promotoras) and volunteers in the Imperial Valley.

“It is important that we celebrate the promotoras service and value they add to our communities,” said Garcia. “By helping people to remain healthy and providing access to care for those who are sick, they are on the front lines of health promotion and disease prevention.”

The offices of State Senator Ben Hueso and U.S. Congressman Juan Vargas joined Assembly Member Eduardo Garcia, who presented each health worker and volunteer with a special recognition for the work they do in the community.

Brawley City Council Members Don Campbell, Donnie Wharton, and Mayor George Nava joined Garcia in the recognition ceremony.
