BRAWLEY – The California High School Rodeo District 8 rode into town the weekend of January 18th and 19th packing the Brawley Cattle Call pasture with trailers and horses from throughout southern California.

Several locals compete in the circuit and took advantage of being on home turf. In the polebending competition was Savannah Mamer who took 6th place, Erin Wilson, winning 3rd overall, and Chelsey Roper.

Roper and Chelsea Webster goat tied with times of 15.5 and 16.7 seconds respectively.

Barrel Racing showed the largest local turnout with Mariana Ruiz, Roper, Webster and Mamer all competing. Ruiz took 8th overall while Mamer grabbed 2nd place. Forty-one contestants had signed up to race in barrels.

At the end of the season, those with qualifying points through placing will move on the California finals in June. There they will compete against the other districts with the winners moving on to the Nationals.
