EL CENTRO – The Imperial County Board of Supervisors accepted a $1,500 donation from the Donors of Valley Endeavors, DOVES, on behalf of the Imperial County Free Library.

The Library plans to use the funds to buy books for young people.

The Straight Life Program, composed of prisoners from Calipatria State Prison, has donated $400 to allow the Library staff to purchase books for the young residents in Juvenile Hall.

Additionally, Kennedy’s Karne gave $150 to offset expenditures for incentives and prizes purchased for the 2013 Summer Reading program, “Dig Into Reading”.

Besides these local donations, the California State Assembly has continued to fund library literacy through the California State Library.  For the 2013-14 Fiscal year, the County library will receive a grant of $1j0,000 to assist in funding the free, confidential adult literacy program.

The library’s adult program has served over 60 persons due to over 15 literacy volunteers. The County Free Library operates in three branches and two outlet sites.

These funds allow the library to supplement their existing budget with materials which directly benefit the young people in their service district.
