Local arrested for animal cruelty

Brawley Police Department

BRAWLEY – On August 22, 2013 at approximately 9:45 AM, a concerned citizen provided the Brawley Police Department a video recording depicting a person physically abusing a medium sized, unknown breed of dog.

The person, later identified as 43 year old Brawley resident James Williams, is seen kicking the animal, grabbing the animal’s throat, and aggressively picking up the animal and throwing it to the ground.

During the course of the investigation, Brawley Police Department investigators determined the incident had taken place in the backyard of the Williams residence during the month of July 2013. Officers located Williams and he was taken into custody without incident.

He was booked into the Imperial County Jail on the charge of Animal Cruelty. Further investigation led to the removal of three dogs from the Williams residence by the Brawley Animal Control Officer. The dogs were placed into protective custody with the Imperial Valley Humane Society.

All of the dogs appeared to be healthy at the time of their removal. It has been reported the video recording of the abuse had been recently uploaded to several social media sites.
