EL CENTRO — The American Legion Post #25 of El Centro hosted their Friday Night Meal Deal and Karaoke event Friday night with the funds going towards a greater cause.

“Our number one goal for the event is camaraderie,” explained Tracy Rascoe, Executive Committee and Public Relations Officer for the American Legion Post 25 of El Centro. “We wanted to get people together and have fun. We also wanted a good dinner for a reasonable price. This also helps people to learn more about what we do”.

The Friday Night Meal Deal at the American Legion Post #25 of El Centro is known as one of the best meal deals in the Imperial Valley. From 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., guests can bring their family for a great quality meal at a reasonable price. Great steak or fish dinners are available for $12, while a burger meal is available for $5, while supplies last. From 8 p.m. to midnight in the lounge, members, active duty personnel, veterans (with proof) and invited guests can participate in karaoke.

“This is a place that you don’t have everywhere,” said Rascoe. “I mean you could go to a bar, but not everybody wants to bring their family to a bar. You could go to a restaurant, but sometimes you can’t get the camaraderie and fun at a restaurant. Here, we kind of combine both while we’re still focused on our mission.”

The American Legion Post is a non-profit veterans service organization made up of volunteers. All funds raised at the event help operate and support their mission including veteran rehabilitation, Americanism, national security, children and youth, and the local community.

“The Friday Night Dinners have been going on here for probably 25 or 30 years,” commented Rascoe. “I would say it’s gotten better. I think part of the reason it’s gotten better is the post has done some changes. Some of the changes we’ve done is started focusing on our mission. Before when I first got here, it was more considered a bar and a kitchen on Friday night, and now I believe the community is starting to realize and learn more about what we do.”
