Leandro Nevarez Macias
Leandro Nevarez Macias, 86, of Brawley passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016, in his home, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Leandro was born in San Ignacio, Sinaloa, Mexico, to Paz Macias and Veronica Nevarez. He was second to the youngest of 8 children. Leandro immigrated to the United States in 1958, and married Juana Ramirez on October 25, 1964. He worked as a self-employed gardener for over 40 years, and took pride in his work. Leandro was a very simple and humble man, and was well-liked and respected by all who knew him. One of his most prized possessions was his 1972 Chevrolet Pickup with a white camper shell.
Leandro is survived by his wife Juana Macias; son Zeff Macias Peña of Thermal, CA; son Jose Agustin Macias (Leticia) of Mexicali, BC; son Joe Macias (Celina) of Dodge City, KS; daughter Lydia Antunez (Manuel) of Brawley, CA; and son Hector Macias of Oakland, CA; Grandchildren & Step-Grandchildren: Yvonne Macias, Ismael “Wachi” Macias, Juana Amelia Macias, Ashely Mariscal-Lindsey, Jose Guerrero, Celina Guerrero, Amelia Macias, Veronica Macias, Melanie Garcia, Stephanie Garcia (Randall), Alyssa Antunez, Manuel Antunez Jr., Michael Antunez, and his 2 doggie-grandkids Sancho & Keiko; Great-Grandchildren: Evelyn, Andrew, Isaac, Kianna, Isabella, Israel, Leo, Alec, Derek, Thomas, and Myla; Sisters Cecilia Macias Agsunod of Niland, CA, and Maria Bañuelos of Culiacan, Sinaloa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, his first wife Amelia Peña, brothers Celso Macias, Grimaldo Macias, and Tito Macias, and sisters Clara Rodriguez and Amada Kern.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, from 6-9:00 P.M. at Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley, with a Rosary prayer at 7:00 P.M. Mass services will be celebrated on Friday, July 15, at 8:00 A.M. at St. Margaret Mary Church in Brawley, and he will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery immediately following mass.
