Brawley Girls lose Heartbreaker to Centurion

BRAWLEY – Brawley Union Wildcat Girls dropped their CIF Division 2 quarterfinal game Monday night to University City even with their home game advantage.

The second round playoff game was played hard by both teams; but unfortunately the Wildcats came up short and lost 41-36 Monday afternoon.

Cassidy Galindo said it best, “We aren’t tired and we are going to get better.”

This was the Wildcat motto for the whole season and it showed in the Brawley gym last Monday afternoon.

Right from the tip-off Galindo scored first for Brawley and the Cats were up 5-0.  The Lady Cats continued to have the game go their way and at the half led 18-17.

Hustle on defense and good steals led to the Cats being ahead in the 3rd , 31-24.

Fourth quarter saw the Centurions pick up their game as their shots began to fall.  Brawley only scored 5 points in the 4th quarter to the Centurions 17. The University City team was able to keep up the pace and the game was theirs to win, 41-36.

The Cats ended their season, 19-10,  senior player Mia Adams stated, “You only lose the game if you give up and these Cats never gave up this year.”

Senior Meriah Overton (team captain) summed up the Wildcat season by saying, ”We had a great season and we are proud that we have always given our best.”

Cassidy Galindo is looking forward to her senior season.

High scorers for Brawley were Meriah Overton with 13 points and Paloma Medina with 11.  University City high scorers were Brent Williams with 12 and Taraja Nyofu with 10.

The Wildcats remained in control through the first three quarters, but a 17-5 University City fourth quarter was enough to snatch victory from the ‘Cats and propel them into the next round of the playoffs.

Final score was 36-41.
