Ismael C. Atondo

Funeral mass will commence on Saturday, September 12, at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Calipatria. Father Ray Roque will officiate the mass. Visitation will be on Friday, September 11, at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley from 6-9 p.m., rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be on Saturday, September 12, at Riverview Cemetery after Mass.
Ismael “Smiley” “Chicho” Atondo, 83, of Calipatria, passed away Saturday, September 5. He was born April 1, 1932 in Calipatria.
Ismael began work with Aaron Quick and Carl Williams as a foreman. Later he worked for Jack Fleming as his foreman.
Ismael enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and going to the Salton Sea.
Ismael is survived by son, Armando of Calipatria; daughters Beatrice of Brawley, Bertha of Calipatria, Diana of Kailua, HI.; brothers, Henry and Louie of San Jose; sisters, Paz, Eva, Annie and Connie from San Jose. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Rosezanna, Glen, Amanda, Raul, Nicholas, Sebastian, and Kathryn, and his great-grandchildren, Kayla, Sophia, Aiden, Isabella, Armand and Gracie.
Ismael is preceded in death by his wife, Lorenza; son, Ismael “Tata”; daughter, Martha; parents, Ismael and Jesus; brothers, Armando and Raymond, and his sister, Elisa.
