CALEXICO – Problems appear deeper for Calexico as California Joint Powers Insurance authority plans to cancel the city’s insurance if they don’t stabilize soon.
Council members and the JPIA held a special teleconference meeting to discuss what JPIA expects in order to continue coverage for the city.
“They voted unanimously with intent to cancel our insurance but depending on how things go within the next 10 days, they can rescind that motion,” Mayor John Moreno said.
Moreno says this is all pending on hiring Richard Warne as the permanent city manager.
JPIA highly recommended they do this or else they may pull out.
Moreno says if JPIA cancels, the city will have to pay nearly $3 million in Workman’s Compensation and jobs will be lost.
